Didja ever notice that most YouTubers don’t leave comments on other channels? The only exception seems to be that they’ll leave positive comments (or sometimes playful teasing comments) on the channels of their friends. Why do you suppose that is?
It could be that they’re too busy with their own channels. That’s part of it.
But it also could be that it’s a bad idea. One that I’m still learning. The odds of having someone take issue with a comment you leave is apparently 50/50. You could say the sun will rise tomorrow and some idiot will want to argue about it. You can say the Beatles were produced by George Martin and some moron will take issue. And God help you if you offer a critical opinion of anything at all, or if you make any generalised statements.
People LOVE to shoot down others online. When you first start your channel, it’s a well-known strategy to go comment on other similar channels so that people can see your comments and maybe click on your name and see your channel. This DOES work. But ultimately it makes you look like a fan instead of a content producer… like an audience member instead of the person on the stage. This is silly, of course, but that is how it can be perceived. You won’t find John Mayer leaving too many comments on YouTube channels. Nor will you find the big YouTubers doing it.
But can’t you just imagine the love/hate that would outpour if John Mayer left a positive comment on a channel? People would line up to yell at him. Morons.
Anyway, I’m still trying to learn this lesson. Boy do people like to pick arguments with me, even on positive statements I make. I guess the secret is to only say generic things. How dull is that? Not sure I can or will do that. See? That’s why I’m still trying to learn this lesson.
