Sometimes I get fired up about a band that I come across that I think is amazing. Right now that band is CHVRCHES and the album is Screen Violence. Most people would call this retro 80s synth pop, and it came out in 2021. They’re a Scottish three piece band with a soprano female singer and I think it’s amazing. I already said that. Listening to the album, you’d definitely say that it’s heavy into synths, but live the band members play bass and guitar (and add a real drummer) along with MIDI synth parts.
CHVRCHES probably isn’t for everyone. The production of this album is… let’s just say that I love the album in spite of how it sounds like the entire mix is slamming the compressor way too hard. High pitched vocals aren’t for everyone – some might not dig Lauren’s voice, but I think it’s fantastic. Some of these songs (Good Girls, for example) are crazy good. This is what you WISH top 40 radio sounded like.
