It’s August 2021 as I type this. A few days ago I got to see Kings of Leon in Tampa at an outdoor amphitheater, and it was so awesome to see live music again. The band played great, but the live sound left much to be desired… the drums were muddy, the bass was too loud, and there was a level of mud across the whole mix. Much like their new album, “When You See Yourself.” Make no mistake – it’s a great album and I love the tracks. I’m just not a fan of modern loud mud mixing style.
Anyway, I live in Florida, where the government is pretending that every strategy for fighting Covid-19 is a violation of civil rights, and we lead the nation in hospitalized children. A lot of folks are wearing masks again, and some people who’ve been vaccinated are getting the delta variant of Covid-19 anyway. And I was JUST starting to work on my live sets again. So much for that idea.
As of now, the odds of me getting infected from someone carrying Covid/Delta is 1 in 26, because I’ve been vaccinated, and if I get C/D, I have a low chance of being hospitalized. Unvaccinated people are 5 times more likely to get C/D and 25 times more likely to be hospitalized. The Delta variant is highly contagious. I could get it and not know it and pass it on to others. It’s been happening.
Damn.
Long suffering site readers know that I avoid politics. I’m still avoiding politics – science isn’t politics. If you don’t believe in science, if you’re getting your info from sources that aren’t official, I don’t care what party you are. I lost a cousin to Covid-19. He died before the vaccine was available. It could have saved his life. The vast majority of Covid-19 deaths happening right now could have been avoided. Don’t be one of them.
Anyway…
So I’ve sort of shifted gears and I’m getting back into writing/recording. But I miss performing live. Still, I figure I waited this long… I’m hoping that eventually our rates will come down and it’ll be safer for me (and other Floridians) to get back out there. I’m still planning on going to a few concerts (masked,) but three concerts over the next 9 months is not the same as a gig every week.
Stay safe out there, people.
