Let’s get right to it – if you want to do your own fretwork, you need some fret pullers. StewMac sells some good ones, but like most things they sell, they charge a fortune. Fortunately we have this thing called Amazon which allows us to find inexpensive alternatives. I found these fret pullers for $7.95, ordered them, and have used them on several different refrets. They’re good. As good as the StewMac fret pullers? I wouldn’t go that far – I rag on StewMac but they make very high quality stuff. I’d say these work as well, but I wouldn’t bet that they’d last for years and years of daily use.
But if you’re a budget guitarist who works on a few instruments, this IS the way to go. These do a great job of getting under the frets. I use them with a soldering iron just the way Dan Erlewine does in all of his videos, and they work very well for me.
