I’m releasing a video on Friday, November 5, 2021 on the YouTube channel explaining why I bought an Apollo Solo, which is a top of the line audio recording interface. Since shooting the video, I’ve had a few hours to play with it, and I have a few thoughts really quickly:
- The audio quality out of the headphone amp is outstanding – best I’ve ever heard.
- This is not an easy device to learn and use. You better be comfy with computers and software.
- The UA plugins sound outstanding and it really is true – you can’t hear any latency. Does what it says it does.
- It’s confusing to use the Apollo Solo with my DAW (Logic Pro.). I was using the UA plugins in Logic and got a message that I’d run out of Solo CPU. But I was running them on the computer. What gives? Obviously I’m doing it wrong. And….
- Be prepared to watch a ton of tutorial videos. See number 2.
I’m not complaining – I work with computers for a living. I don’t mind the complicated stuff. But it’s definitely slowing me up and it’d be nice if it were a little easier.
All things considered, I’m very happy with it. It sounds great and I can’t wait to try out all of the plugins and see what sounds best on my voice. Thanksgiving vacation can’t come soon enough – neither can the weekend!
