This week’s video is about Alex Lifeson, one of my all time favorite guitar players. It’s one of my longest videos. We introduce the ancient but tone smart King Alnico the 2nd, and he reads us a story about Alex’s gear up through Moving Pictures. Then I go over my HX Stomp patches to try to sound like Alex, and I do some playing and singing. Not trying to impress anyone with either – believe me, I know this isn’t my strength. But my love of Rush is very genuine, and this video is my tribute to Alex Lifeson.
Fun Fact – I originally did a segment where I played and sang “The Temples of Syrinx” from 2112, in addition to the other tunes I played and sang, but it got flagged for copyright – not the bad flag where you get in trouble, but the flag where they put ads on your video and you don’t get any money from it. I took it down because it wasn’t that good, and because I didn’t want people to have to see ads. Well, not yet. When I hit 1,000 subscribers, I will definitely do ads – it’s fun to do this for free, but it’d be more fun to earn enough money to pay for new video lights.
Man, I LOVE the HX Stomp. It’s not perfect, but it’s so good for the $600 that I paid for it. The Phase 90 and Echoplex clones are very good in the unit, as I think you can hear in this video.
As the first video I’ve done to demonstrate my appreciation for my guitar heroes, I thought it was mediocre. I will get better at doing these, but the only way to get better is to actually do them. I learned a lot doing this one, so future videos will hopefully be better. I enjoy having King Alnico the 2nd around – he’s a funny guy, and I like that he’s willing to rib Tony a little bit. Tony’s kinda grumpy at times. Someone emailed me and asked “What’s with the puppets?” I said “Well, it’s a small budget show. It’s about all I can afford.” Some people.
Also, I was an elementary school teacher about 25 years ago. That should hopefully explain everything.
