Hello! Richard here, from budgetguitarist.com. You might have arrived on this page from one of my YouTube videos, or you might have found a message in an old bottle on the beach with the URL for this page. Either way, welcome.
I am, by trade, a web developer. But I have always had a deep love of the electric guitar. That and songwriting. In addition to producing this website and YouTube channel, I have released four albums (you can find them on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, etc.) I’ve played in bands and done tons of solo gigs – these days I gig with a computer running backing tracks while I play guitar or keyboards and sing. I have had my music licensed by national chains and organizations, and I’ve done it all without spending very much money.
Well, except for the MacBook Pro I use. But I bought that used.
My entire life, I’ve been fascinated by the 80/20 rule – you can get 80% of the sound of the top pros for 20% of the cost. I’m mostly interested in getting professional sounding results without spending crazy money. The YouTube channel could be thought of as an extension of the website – My goal is to educate and entertain primarily guitar players, but all are welcome.
Some videos will only appeal to a small number of people – that’s OK. For example, I can’t find any video shootouts between a Line 6 Floor Pod Plus and a Line 6 HX Stomp… so I’m going to make one. My hope is that over time, people can come to the channel to learn about specific things. My goal is to establish an archive of helpful videos.
About the Puppet
My video editor is a puppet named Officer Anthony (Tony) Woods. Before becoming the editor for the channel, he worked in the notorious puppet section of the Bronx in New York. Like many, he retired to Florida, and like many, he decided to supplement his income with a part time job. Tony is a very important part of the team here at budgetguitarist.com. Mostly he’s here to keep me in line. At times, my ego is enormous.
