I’m recording a new album. My goal is to sort of blog/videotape as much of the process as I can without it slowing me down too much.
I have this song in what I would call demo state – all of the elements of the song are there, and some of the tracks could be used on the final version. But I’ve learned to slap down the parts of a song pretty quickly to get it to the point where it sounds close to what it will be, so that if I feel like throwing the ideas out I haven’t invested tons of time into it. The vocal’s a bit rough but it’s close. The guitar solo was improvised so it’s not exactly flawless. There are small timing issues with almost everything. The drums weren’t fully programmed yet. But again, this is a demo. Check it out:
Next steps: I like the arrangement – I think it works mostly. I think the second verse needs more variety. There are more guitar tracks that come in in verse 2, but you don’t really notice them. The vocal needs to be redone to fix pitch and timing issues, and maybe get a better sound. But as a demo rough mix, I like it.
